Policy exclusions

All travel insurance policies have exclusions and Travel Insurance Direct is no different. We however, prefer to highlight these to you so you are completely informed in the clearest possible way about what you are and aren't covered for. Below is a general description of the kind of exclusions in each section of the policy but please take the time to READ the policy wording CAREFULLY to see all exclusions.

General exclusions

This section of the policy wording details the list of exclusions which apply to all sections of the policy. There are some terrifying events and circumstances covered by some of these exclusions such as war, nuclear accidents and attacks, biological and chemical terrorism or epidemics and pandemics. You will find these exclusions or ones like them in almost all insurance policies. Other general exclusions relate to fraud and dishonesty, bankruptcy of your travel agent and losses arising when the insured person is acting in an irresponsible manner.

Medical Exclusions

Medical exclusions generally cover pre-exisiting conditions, medical treatment without the consent of the insurance company and medical bills in your country of residence.

Exclusions for baggage & personal effects

These exclusions highlight losses that will not be covered for example wear, tear, damage to older personal effects and losses not reported to the police.

Liability Exclusions

Exclusions here deal with incidents that are not covered within the policy, for example liability arising from the operation of mechanically propelled vehicles (bikes are OK) any professional activity or losses where the insured person accepts liability without agreement of the insurer.

Hints & Tips:

When making the region selection, choose the region where you will spend the majority of your trip and this will also cover you for all other areas you travel to.

For example, if you are spending 3 days in Singapore, 2 weeks in the UK and 4 weeks in Europe, select 'Europe' as your destination and you will be covered in Singapore and the UK also.
